Google's Threat Intelligence Group says Shenzhen-based Videostrong Technology intentionally built a backdoor called XCPE into more than 1.3 million Android TV set-top boxes and other Android-based IoT devices, including telehealth devices, karaoke machines and digital signage. Videostrong allegedly sold access to criminal affiliates, who loaded modules for ad fraud, residential proxy network enrollment, data theft and further malware; some modules could take screenshots, inject keystrokes or open a device shell.Googleの脅威インテリジェンスグループによると、深圳に拠点を置くVideostrong Technologyは、130万台以上のAndroid TVセットトップボックスや、遠隔医療機器、カラオケ機器、デジタルサイネージなどのAndroidベースIoT機器に、意図的にバックドア「XCPE」を組み込んでいた。Videostrongは犯罪者グループにアクセス権を販売し、広告詐欺、レジデンシャルプロキシ網への組み込み、データ窃取、追加マルウェアの導入などのモジュールを仕込ませていたとされ、一部モジュールはスクリーンショット取得やキー入力の注入、シェルの起動も可能だった。

Owners of affected devices had their home internet connections and devices used without consent, and the malware resisted removal by reinstalling itself and disabling Google Play Protect.
