What happened
Apple announced on October 27, 2026 that Keynote, Pages, and Numbers are getting new AI assistants in beta that understand document context, built on Apple's own models and OpenAI, according to The Verge. The apps also gain Model Context Protocol (MCP) support, which lets third-party AI agents read documents, make edits, and run automated actions, but this specifically requires macOS 27 or later, making it a Mac-only feature for now per iThinkDifferent. Keynote additionally adds a new open file format called Keynote Interchange Format (.keyx) for external tools.
Why it matters
Writers, presenters, and spreadsheet users get built-in AI help for drafting, slide design, and data organization, while developers get a documented way to build agents and tools that work with iWork files instead of reverse-engineering Apple's formats.
What’s next
Apple Creator Studio updates, including these features, are set to arrive on the App Store in November as a free update for existing subscribers.
