What happened
Sony announced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), a new AI upscaling tier for the standard PS5, built from its Project Amethyst work with AMD. It launched via patches on October 1, 2026 for Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei, added as an optional graphics mode.
Why it matters
Sony says QSSR will be offered broadly to all PlayStation developers and is a near drop-in replacement for games already using PSSR, needing only a few days of tuning. Because base PS5 lacks dedicated machine learning silicon, Sony and engineer Daniel Craig say PSSR 'remains the gold standard' on PS5 Pro, with QSSR expected to land closer to upscaled 1440p rather than 4K.Sonyはこの技術を全てのPlayStation開発者に広く提供するとしており、既にPSSRに対応したタイトルであれば数日の調整でほぼそのまま導入できるという。
What’s next
How quickly other PlayStation Studios and third-party developers adopt QSSR remains to be seen.
