What happened
In a blog post published October 2, 2026, AWS CEO Matt Garman announced Amazon no longer uses nondisclosure agreements with county officials when negotiating data center projects, and detailed a new 'Built Together' program committing over $1 billion over five years to host communities. The money funds free community college programs, workforce training, and energy-efficiency upgrades for homes, schools and community buildings. Garman also disputed criticism that data centers strain water, electricity costs and pollution.2026年10月2日に公開されたブログ投稿で、AWSのMatt Garman CEOは、データセンター建設の交渉において郡当局とのNDA（秘密保持契約）の使用をもはや行っていないと発表した。
Why it matters
NDAs had let local officials withhold details like water and energy use from residents, a practice activists cite as a top driver of distrust; ending them changes what communities can learn before projects are approved. Garman warned that more than 100 pending local moratoriums could cost the US its AI lead, framing both moves as a response to that backlash.NDAはこれまで地元当局が水・エネルギー使用量などの詳細を住民に明かせない仕組みとなっており、環境活動家らは透明性の欠如を反発の主因として挙げてきた。
