What happened
Bloomberg reports Apple is working with LG on a smart lock, video doorbell, thermostat, temperature sensor, and indoor, outdoor and floodlight cameras. The products will carry LG branding, with LG handling manufacturing and support, and are designed to integrate with Apple's rumored smart home hub and HomeKit platform. Per Bloomberg via Gurman/Techmeme, these LG devices are 'at least a few more months' from release, even though Apple's own hub is expected to launch October 13th.Bloombergの報道によると、AppleはLGと共同でスマートロック、ビデオドアベル、サーモスタット、温度センサー、屋内・屋外・フラッドライト型カメラを開発している。
Why it matters
The arrangement lets Apple shape design and features without bearing full manufacturing costs, similar to past deals with Belkin and Logitech, intensifying competition with Amazon's Ring and Google's Nest.
What’s next
Apple's smart home hub is expected to launch at an event on October 13th, where it may also reveal a new HomePod mini and upgraded Apple TV, while the LG-branded devices remain months away; some regulatory filing details are being kept confidential until early 2027.Apple独自のスマートホームハブは10月13日のイベントでの発表が見込まれ、新型HomePod miniやApple TVの刷新も披露される可能性があるが、LGブランドの製品発売はこれより数カ月先となる見通しで、一部の規制当局への申請情報は2027年初めまで非公開とされている。
