What happened
DoorDash announced a text-ordering feature, built on its June-launched Ask DoorDash chatbot, that lets users message requests like 'order my usual protein bowl' and have it search spots, build a cart and checkout in the thread. It's in preview: US iOS users can join a waitlist now, with no confirmed Android timeline. DoorDash also revealed its first drone-delivery pilot, DoorDash Air, launching in an unspecified part of northern California with Chipotle and Popeyes, plus a B2B API for business ordering via tools like Slack bots.
Why it matters
Consumers get a simpler way to order without the app, while businesses gain bulk-ordering automation; restaurants and couriers may see delivery speed change if drones scale beyond the pilot.
What’s next
DoorDash hasn't announced a consumer launch date for drone deliveries, and The Verge says it has asked DoorDash for rollout and Android timing details.
