In an October 2, 2026 update, Apple said it will add new controls so users can only grant Full Disk Access on Mac through 'very explicit user action.' Apple said some developers use this permission, originally meant for backup apps, in ways that expose files, mail, messages and browsing history without users fully understanding the risk, and that this risk 'will grow substantially' as AI agents become more capable and autonomous.
