American Express launched the Intent Intelligence Framework, built to capture and authenticate a customer's purchase intent before an AI agent finishes a transaction. It starts with a Create Intent API that records purchase instructions and constraints like merchant name or budget, then generates an Intent ID and a Proof of Intent Token used to obtain a secure digital payment credential for checkout instead of the customer's card number.
